Why did you change "the data shows" to "the data show" in my essay? Both look right to me.
In formal academic writing, "data" is often treated as the plural of "datum", so "the data show" is the conservative choice. In business and everyday writing the singular is widely accepted. For your essay I would keep the plural. Paste the rest and I will flag every similar case.
